Chronic pain affects one in four Danes and has a profound impact on daily life and overall quality of life. With 26 percent of the adult Danish population - over 1.2 million people - living with persistent pain, the need for better pain management has never been greater. Pain can affect many aspects of life, including sleep, appetite, and mental resources, ultimately impacting overall well-being.

But what is pain management, and how can it help? In short, pain management is about relieving or controlling pain through medical, physical, and psychological approaches.

At Anodyne Care, we understand that modern pain management requires more than one approach. Our unique method combines multiple therapies into personalized, interdisciplinary treatment plans that address both the physical and psychosocial aspects of pain. Instead of focusing solely on symptom relief, we take a holistic approach to break the pain cycle and provide practical, clinical pain treatment that truly makes a difference in your everyday life.

What is pain management? - Our modern and evidence-based approach

What is pain management? - Our modern and evidence-based approach

The understanding of pain and pain management has evolved significantly over the years, and modern pain management now recognizes the complexity of chronic conditions and the need for comprehensive solutions.

Interdisciplinary pain management is a coordinated effort that combines pharmaceutical, physical, and psychological approaches to achieve the best possible outcome. Health authorities recommend that pain medication should rarely stand alone, and that non-pharmacological interventions should play a central role in treatment, as they can improve physical, psychological, and social functioning.

Effective clinical pain management therefore requires a multimodal approach, where medical specialists, physiotherapists, and psychologists collaborate on individualized treatment plans. At Anodyne Care, we implement this interdisciplinary approach through our coordinated team, ensuring that every treatment plan is tailored to each patient’s specific needs and challenges.

Pain and pain management

Acute pain (under 3 months):

Typically short-term pain that arises suddenly - for example, from an injury, surgery, or infection. It often serves a protective function by warning the body of harm and encouraging care of the affected area.

Benefits of our approach

At Anodyne Care, we combine evidence-based pharmaceutical, physical, and psychological treatment methods to create a tailored plan adapted to each patient’s unique needs.

A key advantage of our approach is flexibility. We offer online consultations and digital tools, ensuring that you receive professional support and follow-up throughout your treatment, no matter where you are.

Treatment plans are developed in close collaboration with other healthcare providers to ensure a coordinated, interdisciplinary effort. We understand that chronic pain and cancer-related symptoms affect each person differently, which is why we specialize in individualized care that addresses your specific symptoms and life situation.

Pain management for chronic pain

Pain management for chronic pain

Living with chronic pain can be both challenging and limiting in everyday life. In Denmark, roughly one in five people live with chronic pain, making it a widespread and serious issue. When pain lasts for more than three months, it often develops into an independent condition that requires targeted and specialized care.

At Anodyne Care, chronic pain management is our primary specialty. We offer personalized treatment plans that integrate research-based methods and various therapies across disciplines to provide the most comprehensive and effective relief.

Symptoms and causes

Chronic pain affects far more than just the area where the pain originates. Many people experience how pain and stress influence each other in a negative cycle, where increased stress worsens the pain, which in turn creates more stress. Pain can also disrupt sleep, as persistent pain often interferes with sleep patterns and causes fatigue, which can further lower the pain threshold.

For many, chronic pain also affects appetite, as both the pain itself and certain medications can alter appetite and lead to weight changes. These connections highlight the need for chronic pain management that focuses on the whole person.

Our treatment method

Our evidence-based approach to chronic pain management integrates both the physical and psychological aspects of the pain experience. We understand that effective pain treatment requires more than symptom relief - it must address the complex relationship between pain, quality of life, and daily functioning. That’s why we combine medical expertise with psychological support and physical therapies in coordinated treatment programs tailored to your unique situation.

Personalized pain management for you

Personalized pain management for you

At Anodyne Care, we offer tailored pain management for a wide range of conditions. Our approach is based on official treatment guidelines and focuses particularly on nociceptive and neuropathic pain, as well as other complex disorders where evidence-based treatment is essential to achieving the best possible relief.

Cancer-related pain

Pain management in cancer care requires special expertise and consideration. At Anodyne Care, we provide pain treatment for cancer patients that includes both pain relief and management of treatment-related symptoms, such as nausea, to ensure the best possible well-being. Our palliative pain management focuses on quality of life and comfort throughout all stages of the illness. With an interdisciplinary team working closely with oncologists, we ensure coordinated and individualized care for each patient.

Back pain and musculoskeletal pain

Pain management for back pain is one of our core areas. We help patients with conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and osteoporosis by combining conservative and interventional methods. Our approach integrates medical treatments, physiotherapy, and lifestyle guidance to achieve optimal pain relief and improved daily function.

Other conditions

At Anodyne Care, we offer specialized pain management for fibromyalgia, where a multimodal approach often provides the best results. Our treatment for nerve pain is based on evidence-based guidelines and combines both medical and non-medical interventions.

We also provide pain management for osteoarthritis, arthritis, and multiple sclerosis, focusing on reducing inflammation and preserving function, in close collaboration with specialists to ensure a coordinated effort.

Our orthopedic expertise includes the treatment of knee and shoulder pain, including post-surgical shoulder pain and phantom pain following amputation. Our approach can also be adapted to a wide range of other pain conditions and acute issues such as kidney stones.

Postoperative and palliative pain management

Postoperative and palliative pain management

At Anodyne Care, we understand that effective postoperative and palliative pain management is essential - both for successful rehabilitation after surgery and for maintaining quality of life in terminal stages. Our interdisciplinary team of specialists works closely together to relieve pain, prevent complications such as nausea, and support both physical and psychological well-being.

Postoperative pain management

Our postoperative pain management focuses on reducing immobilization and unnecessary hospitalization. Through a combination of medical, physical, and psychological interventions, we help patients regain function and mobility as quickly as possible. By integrating postoperative pain management into the overall treatment plan, we also support the prevention of complications and promote faster healing.

Palliative and end-of-life care

In the palliative phase, palliative and end-of-life pain management are essential to ensuring patient comfort and quality of life. Our interdisciplinary team tailors treatment individually so that both pain and accompanying symptoms such as nausea are managed with care. We work closely with oncologists and other specialists to provide coordinated, holistic, and compassionate care throughout the course of the illness.

Pain management for the elderly

We offer pain management for the elderly with a focus on individual adaptation and safety. Treatment takes into account age, overall health, and medication use to minimize side effects such as fall risk. The goal is to relieve pain effectively while maintaining function and quality of life, making everyday living easier and more secure.

Medical pain management - Safe and evidence-based

Medical pain management - Safe and evidence-based

Pharmacological pain management is a key component of modern pain therapy and is always part of an individualized and holistic treatment plan at Anodyne Care. Our evidence-based approach is built on the principle of starting with the mildest medications and escalating only when necessary - with a focus on avoiding unnecessary drug use. Treatment involves continuous evaluation of effectiveness and side effects to achieve the goal of optimal pain relief with minimal impact on the patient’s quality of life.

Common medications for pain management

The choice of medication always depends on the type and severity of the pain. In practice, classic opioids such as morphine are often used for acute and severe chronic pain, while other drugs like methadone are typically included in more specialized treatment courses.

For neuropathic pain, medications that affect the nervous system’s signaling are commonly used - for example, gabapentin or certain types of antidepressants such as amitriptyline, both of which have well-documented effects.

In particularly complex or treatment-resistant cases, ketamine may be used in specialized settings, while Botox is especially known for its effectiveness in treating migraine and muscle tension-related pain.

Cannabis as medical pain management

Cannabis has been used for pain management for more than 3,000 years and was once a regular part of pharmacy inventories. After a long period of prohibition, medical cannabis is once again an established treatment option in Denmark. Since the pilot program was launched in 2018, thousands of patients have gained access to cannabis-based treatment, including cannabis oil and CBD products.

Experience shows that many patients have found relief from both pain and nausea, as well as improved quality of life - despite the still limited amount of research and documentation.

From 2026, a permanent law will take effect, ensuring continued access to medical cannabis in Denmark. At Anodyne Care, we offer cannabis as a supplement to conventional pain management and always as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Our treatment combines medical cannabis with other evidence-based approaches to achieve the best possible results and quality of life. All treatments are carried out under close monitoring and professional follow-up by specialists.

Alternative pain management without medication

Alternative pain management without medication

Non-pharmacological pain management represents a holistic approach to pain relief, where natural methods form the foundation for long-term relief without dependency on medication. This type of non-pharmacological treatment focuses on activating the body’s own healing processes and strengthening the patient’s ability to manage pain through targeted interventions.

Pain management without medication is based on evidence-based methods that address the physical, psychological, and social aspects of the pain experience. In many cases, alternative pain management without medication can be just as effective as conventional treatment, especially for chronic pain conditions.

Psychological approaches

Psychological pain management is a central part of modern pain therapy, focusing on changing the patient’s relationship with pain. Cognitive therapy is used to identify and modify negative thought and behavior patterns that often intensify the experience of pain.

This form of cognitive pain therapy is often combined with mindfulness, where techniques help patients observe the pain without becoming overwhelmed. Together, these approaches strengthen self-regulation and reduce the emotional burden of chronic pain.

Other methods

Natural pain management includes a wide range of methods that support the body’s own healing processes. Alternative pain management may involve physical therapy, where targeted movement and strength training improve functionality and reduce pain intensity.

In addition, alternative pain management can include complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage, and other integrative approaches. These alternative pain management methods have shown promising results, especially when combined with conventional treatments. What they all share is a focus on treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms.

Private pain management with high accessibility

At Anodyne Care, we offer specialized private pain management with a focus on quality, professionalism, and individualized care. We combine medical expertise with personal attention, ensuring that each patient receives the time and care they need.

Our team of experienced doctors and pain management specialists has many years of experience in both conventional and innovative treatment methods. We understand that chronic pain affects every aspect of life, which is why we focus on long-term solutions tailored to each individual patient.

Treatment is provided through online consultations, allowing patients in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway to access professional pain management. Our approach integrates medical treatment with non-pharmacological methods, psychological support, and functional training - an interdisciplinary model that ensures a holistic course of care rather than mere symptom management.

Location

Anodyne Care is located at Grønningen 15, 3rd floor, 1270 Copenhagen K. Although our team primarily conducts online consultations for patients in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, this address serves as our physical base and provides a professional environment for treatment and administration.

Booking and consultation

Easy access to professional pain management is at the core of our mission. That’s why we offer online consultations, allowing us to meet the diverse needs of our patients. The process begins with an online screening, where we assess whether you are eligible for treatment - this requires that you have a diagnosed condition we can base the treatment on.

This is followed by a thorough video consultation, where we evaluate your pain condition and create a personalized treatment plan. The plan takes a holistic view of you as an individual, focusing on relieving pain and improving quality of life. The course is supported by continuous follow-up and adjustments to ensure your treatment plan evolves in line with your needs and circumstances.

Financing pain management

When choosing treatment at a private clinic, it’s important to also consider the financial aspects. Many patients may be eligible to have their expenses partially or fully covered through their private health insurance, and in some cases, partial reimbursement may be available from the public healthcare system.

However, there are typically some fees that must be paid out of pocket. To make treatment more accessible, Anodyne Care is working to offer flexible options such as payment plans and monthly subscription agreements, allowing you to spread the costs over time.

Collaboration with the healthcare system

As a private pain management clinic, we work closely with the public healthcare system and other healthcare providers. This ensures continuity of care and optimal coordination of the patient’s overall health management.

Our training programs provide healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge and most advanced techniques in pain management, in close collaboration with leading researchers and institutions to promote innovation and improve clinical practice.

Pain management in Copenhagen at Anodyne Care represents an investment in your long-term health and quality of life, where professional expertise meets compassionate care in a modern and accessible setting.
